Welwyn Garden City Cricket Club News story

WGC CC Youth Section

06 Jan 2021

Hi All

As some of you are, by now, probably aware that Ian Watkins has stepped down as organiser of youth cricket at WGCCC. He will, however, remain chairman of Digswell Park Sports Association.

Ian has devoted a huge amount of time, energy and enthusiasm into our youth cricket over the many years, which the club and the community have benefited greatly from. It is amazing to see so many children and families are now involved in Junior cricket and this year, in particular, it was rewarding to see so many children make the step from youth cricket into our adult teams.

Our club is largely run by volunteers and therefore It is vitally important we all help where we can to keep this section of the club running after Ian’s departure. This is not just for the future of the club but also the many benefits youth cricket can give to families and the wider community. To make this happen we are appealing to you to help us in any way you can to fulfil the various aspects of the role Ian looked after.

To make the role more manageable we think it best broken-down into smaller roles, not all of which require any knowledge or experience of cricket as they are admin/organisation focused. Please find these details in the attached.

As an appreciation of anyone agreeing to fulfil any of these roles, the club will cover the costs of your children’s annual subscription fees and family social membership of the club.

If you are interested in taking on any of these roles, or, know of anyone that might be and would like some further information, please contact us.

On a separate note: We have booked Winter training at Ridgeway Academy (formerly Sir Fredric Osborn School), but obvious due to the current restrictions, for the time being this will not be able to go ahead, we will keep you updated should the situation change.
