16th March 2022
Dear Member,
I trust you are all wintering well and excited about the approaching cricket season! Our first friendly matches are scheduled for Saturday 9th April, with the 1st XI away and the 2nd XI home, both to Chingford. Our league season starts on Saturday 7th May with matches for all five senior sides involved.
This year’s President’s night will be on Friday 29th April (7pm) when we would be delighted to see as many players and supporters as possible for our traditional start of the cricket season event. Our new overseas player, Aidan Watterson, will have arrived from Queensland so please come down and meet him. You will also be able to register and pay your yearly subscription (£180).
During the off-season Simon Bridgewater (and his team) have spent a considerable amount of time preparing our grounds for the new season. We have organised a working party on Saturday 26th March (10am); please ALL try and come down to help with the final preparations.
Maintaining our position as one of the leading clubs in Hertfordshire is not cheap and in common with most years capital expenditure is necessary to ensure our ground remains one of the best. This year our focus is on raising funds to replace our nets. Richard Tucker has been working hard on this project over the winter. It is quite clear the only place we can have nets, is where they currently are. We have sourced quotes from several net installation companies and the most suitable/economical quote amounts to £28k - a considerable amount of money for us. Thanks to the Centenary Ball we have raised £8k but over the next year we need to try and raise the balance of at least £20k. It is our intention to organise several fundraising events during the season and beyond to raise this considerable sum.
Richard will be organising a raffle and will be asking members to sell tickets throughout the season. As we are one of the country’s Disability Hubs, we are organising this jointly with Richard Hill MBE the ECB organiser of Disability cricket. We already have some excellent prizes but as we are aiming to raise thousands, we would very much like more. If any of you, or your company, would like to contribute then please contact Richard asap: rtucker.saeservices@virgin.net
Any sponsorship will be recognised on the tickets along with featuring in the Clubhouse.
We have other ideas like a new membership for ex-players and friends of the club; a ‘go funding’ page; WGCCC fantasy cricket plus other exciting events at our club. All the money raised for the club will go towards the refurbishing of nets.
It leaves me to finish by wishing you all a successful season and fingers crossed a triumphant campaign for all five senior sides, as well as our excellent junior teams including a new girls team. Yours sincerely,
Christopher Molyneux
Club Captain WGCCC
