Welwyn Garden City Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Henley CC on Sat 28 May 2011 at 11h00

Match report
Winning the toss, Welwyn Garden City decided to put Henley into bat, a decision which on the face looked the right decision, particularly early on when Nick Walker and Aaron Laraman's bowling was too hot for the top order to handle.
Henley found themselves 4 wickets down with just 25 runs on the board and when the fifth wicket went with the score on 42, Welwyn harboured thoughts of a low Henley score.
With conditions improving all he time, the lower/middle order for Henley had different ideas, three consecutive 50 stands from the 6th, 7th and 8th wickets put Henley in a much better position. David Allaway top scored for Henley scoring a well-made 99, wicket keeper, Todd Furguson made 47 and Steve Naylor 37 in a final score of 267 for 9 in a restricted 61 overs.
After the break the Welwyn Openers started briskly but when Louis Champion nicked a lifting ball behind with the score on 28, the target score was always going to be difficult. A second wicket stand of 33 was ended when Jamed Hewitt was caught at slip playing a mis-timed reverse sweep, a shot, which is risky at the best of times, but one which is the downfall of batsmen in this team too many times.
A flurry of wickets fell when both Nick Walker and Jamie Southgare were both dismissed for nought and when Matthew Hill went for a patient 19, the Welwyn score was on just 80 for five wickets.
Henley now scencing a possible victory, were foiled by an unbroken partnerrship between the captain, Aaron Laraman (47 not out) and Chris Grant (38 not out) in a stand of 73. The match ending in a draw.
Welwyn Garden City 9 points; Henley 12 points.
