Match report
Welwyn Garden City played their first game of the season at Old Owens on Wednesday. It was also the first hard ball game for this group.
Batting first Old Owens scored 246-6. Their top scorer was Sammy with 11. All the Welwyn Garden team bowled well. Keaton, Oliver, William, Nathan and Charlotte conceded less than 10 runs each. Finnley and Sam both took 1 wicket but the star performer was Matt B who had the excellent figures of 4 wickets for 1 run. The bowling was backed up by some good fielding.
Having bowled well Welwyn got a good start to their innings when Keaton and Oliver had a partnership of 30. Keaton had the top score of the game with 22. The rest of the team batted well as Welwyn Garden City lost only 1 wicket and finished with a score of 286 to win by 40 runs. For Old Owens Kieran and Archie both bowled well.
An encouraging start to the season. Both sides played well on a bitterly cold night.
