Stevenage IV v Welwyn Garden City Cricket Club Saturday 4th XI on Sat 02 Jun 2012 at 13h00
Welwyn Garden City Cricket Club Won
Match report
On an overcast afternoon that signalled earlier rain and the threat of more to come we arrived at KGV for our game against Stevenage IV.
Having won the toss Welwyn batted on what proved to be a wet and slow wicket, which was capable of the odd “dodgy” ball. A blistering start by James Carr gave way to a stodgy middle which threatened our efforts to reach 200. However just when it seemed that 150 would be a good score the lower order made a fine contribution in runs and stick ability to take us to 200 in the final over of the 53 available. The late order charge was led by another accomplished innings by Jordan Brunel and a fine 40 not out by Chris “I wasn’t out twice” Price.
With 200 on the board the spin of Matt Wells and Jordan Brunel opened the bowling and with the skies clearing obliterated the Stevenage top order. Only a spirited 56 by the Stevenage No.8 prevented them from being bowled out for 50, as they were eventually all out for 105.
A fantastic team performance.
