Match report Despite torrential rain an hour before the start of play we started on time and in good spirits. This was thanks in no small part to the covers provided by Terry Edwards which ensured that the wicket was not affected by the rain.
Having lost the toss our unbeaten opposition put us in and after two early wickets a long occupation of the crease ensued. This resulted ultimately in a well constructed 50 for Jonti Mester. However the innings lacked the spark necessary to take us to a competitive score. Enter Lutf, who having broken his own bat early in his innings, put the opposition to the sword (76) with a borrowed bat. When he was finally caught on the boundary we were on the verge of 200, reaching that important landmark in the last over of the 53 available.
Hertford IV were quickly in trouble, reduced to 5 for 2 by an inspired piece of bowling by Andy Stanier. However a third wicket stand of 100 plus put the opposition on course for victory and despite a heroic team effort that yielded 6 further wickets, victory eluded us, the opposition finally getting over the line with one ball to spare.
