Scorecard
St Albans v Welwyn Garden City Cricket Club Under 14 A on Wed 16 May 2012 at 18h00
Welwyn Garden City Cricket Club Won by 3 wickets
Match report
Finally the U14 got their campaign underway with a low-scoring but thrilling encounter vs St Albans, who had made a huge effort to allow the game to be played.
After winning the toss, Jordan inserted the opposition, and at once Charlie Moore made big inroads into the St Albans batsmen, taking a hat-trick, finishing with figures of 5-23. This was supported by all other bowlers, James taking 3-3, shooting out St Albans for just 54, once again the formidable U14 attack proving very hot.
Any hopes of an easy win were immediately dashed by a fearsome counter attack by the St Albans bowlers, who were in command at 21-4. Rob Wells and Henry Mercer began the re-build, Rob defending and Henry hitting out where possible and took WGC close. With both out in quick succession, the game swung back to St Albans, but Callum and Nick Mester mixing attack and defense, they edged WGC over the line, WGC taking the game by 3 wickets, with an unbeaten partnership of 15. A true team effort by all the players to overcome formidable opponents on a green wicket
