Letchworth Garden City v Welwyn Garden City Cricket Club Under 15 on Sun 09 Jun 2013 at 10h00
Welwyn Garden City Cricket Club Won by 35 runs

Match report At least last season, when we played Letchworth the rain kept us warm!

A bitterly cold day for WGC’s U15 match away match vs Letchworth saw WGC come out on top after losing the toss and being asked to bat first. The innings followed it’s usual course, a quick start by Jordan and Hemang saw 50 posted in 8 overs. Following Hemang’s dismissal for 12, Dan Page came in at three, with Jordan continuing to score quickly. Jordan was out for 34, and James came in at 4 to maintain the run rate. Dan was unfortunately run out for 3, but James and Rob pushed on, until Rob was unluckily run out after the bowler brushed the ball following a James straight drive. Connor at 5 upped the rate once again, with a lightning fast 10, the innings closing at 122-5, James not out at the end on a rapid 33.

If the total was a tough one it was made even tougher by an excellent start to Letchworth’s reply by Connor and Sam bowling in tandem, with just 4 scored off 4 overs, with Sam also bowling Connor Pond, Letchworth’s opener. The run rate required increased throughout the innings as Ben, Nikhil, Callum & Nick bowled through the middle overs, leaving 54 needed off three overs. It must be noted that Letchworth’s batsmen Greenbank and Willimott, with 31* and 21 fought back with some excellent strokes. Rob reminded all of his bowling excellence with a maiden for the 19th over, Letchworth closing on 87-5, and a win for WGC by 35 runs.

Both teams played the match in their usual sporting way, and both sides did well in spite of the bitter weather.
