Scorecard

Berkhamsted v Welwyn Garden City Cricket Club Under 15 on Sun 07 Jul 2013 at 13h30
Welwyn Garden City Cricket Club Won by 29 runs

Match report The defeat to Knebworth sent WGC U15 due west to the beautiful grounds of Berkhamsted for the HJL U15 quarter final.

Jordan won the toss and elected to bat on a blazing hot day, but a surprisingly green pitch. The innings started slowly with Berkhamsted on the front foot and Jordan initially charting a careful course against good, accurate bowling, Jordan out for 26. With the innings requiring acceleration, with the score at 78-3 off 17 overs, James and Charlie launched a blistering counter attack sending the ball to all parts of the ground and putting WGC firmly in charge. The innings closing at 117-3, James not out on 44 and Charlie 27 not out also.

Although momentum was with WGC, Berkhamsted started brightly with 18 off three overs. A direct hit by Ben to run out the opener led to probably the key moment of the match. The Berkhamsted No3 having hit 50 in all of his previous 4 innings, was castled first ball by Connor. Berkhamsted fought back once again and the innings was re-built by the fourth wicket partnership. The introduction of Jordan once again led to a flurry of wickets in the middle order, catches for Sam and Ben also. Sam and Callum also took a wicket each, WGC maintaining their fielding excellence in fiercely hot conditions. The innings closed at 88-8, the highlight late on a sliding stop and return to James by sub fielder, Matthew Boylan. WGC going through to their first final's day.

Well done to both sides who played high standard Cricket on a boiling hot day
