Match report A disappointing end to finely poised match vs old rivals Hitchin and Welwyn Garden City.

Jordan won the toss and elected to bat in bright sunshine. Jordan and Hemang posted an opening stand of 48 off the first 10 overs against the Hitchin opening bowlers. Honours very much even at this stage. A mini collapse left Hitchin in the driving seat, Jordan scoring a patiently crafted 37. Henry and Connor upped the pace excellently leaving a challenging total of 117-5.

In reply Connor made an immediate breakthrough, but the Hitchin top order decided to attack early on and were able to keep pace with the run rate. The loss of Charlie to injury mid-way through his second over depleted the bowling stock, however Hemang took a wicket with his first ball, and James with two wickets put Hitchin firmly on the back foot, 5 wickets down for 45.

At this point, things took firstly a bizarre, then slightly worrying turn, as a group of local youths decided to damage the covers then remove the boundary ropes. Two 10 minute stops, combined with a stand off between the youths and parents and players from both side led to the abandonment of the match. A very disappointing start to the season.
