Welwyn Garden City Cricket Club Under 13 v Hitchin on Fri 10 Jun 2011 at 18:00
Welwyn Garden City Cricket Club Won By 5 Wickets

Match report Although the weather forecast was not good, Hitchin won the toss and elected to bat on a very pleasant evening at Digswell Park.

The Hitchin batters started brightly, and early wicket for WGC didn't check the scoring rate as Praveen and Harry for Hitchin maintained a healthly rate of well over 5 an over, after 7 overs the score was 39-2. Harry eventually out after scoring an excellent 28. Jordan and Sam for WGC managed to slow the rate, but the introduction of Rob, playing in his first game of the season after illness, opened up the middle order, and he managed to take three quick wickets. Charlie Holmes behind the stumps, taking a good caught behind. Charlie, Will and Olly for Hitchin were able to push on though, Hitchin closing on a very respectable 104-6.

The WGC reply followed exactly the same course as the Hitchin innings, an early wicket not slowing the rate, with Charlie Moore and Hemang racing along to 53 off 7 overs, Charlie making an eye catching and swift 24. Hemang, batting at 3 pushed on, retiring for 31, mixing solid defense with lovely strokeplay. With James also pushing the score on, WGC were seemingly up for a comfortable victory. However, with the James caught behind for 18, the Hitchin bowlers came right back into it, hostile bowling from Nathan and Praveen forcing WGC to consolidate and a truly excellent game of Cricket ended with firstly Phil then Rob and Callum edging WGC past the finishing line, the innings closing on 108-5.

We managed to dodge the approaching thunder and rain, but all in all, a throughly enjoyable game of Cricket with both sets of supporters giving their appreciation to the 22 players at the end. Cricket very much the winner..
